Château Yquem

45 kilometres from Bordeaux, built around 16th and 17th century buildings that have been listed as Historic Monuments since 2003, Domaine d'Yquem stands out as the only Sauternes wine in Bordeaux to be classified as a Premier Cru Supérieur (since 1855). The estate, which has been in the same family for 4 centuries, covers more than a hundred hectares of sandy-clay soil. It benefits from a veritable Sauternes micro-climate.

The result is exceptional wines: made using sustainable viticulture methods, matured in barrels for 42 months, composed of 75% Semillon and 25% Sauvignon, Domaine d'Yquem is reputed to produce the finest sweet wines in Bordeaux. That's why Château Yquem is so highly prized. Its appellations (Sainte Croix du Mont, Loupiac, Cérons, Cadillac and Barsac) are all renowned. These are wines that require patience (you'll need to wait at least fifteen years to allow them to develop all their aromas), but they also bring together a vast variety of tastes: orange, pineapple, apricot, spices, etc. Their capacity for ageing is unrivalled.

Château d'Yquem is one of the world's leading producers of Sauternes wines. With its exceptional vintages and superior quality, this grand cru classé is produced from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes grown in its vineyards. Since bottling its first dry white wine in 1867, the Sauvage family has maintained the reputation of this exceptional estate. Under the management of Pierre Lurton, Château d'Yquem has received numerous awards and distinctions, including at the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition. Robert Parker has also praised the quality of the château's bottles, regularly rating them above 90 points. Despite the ups and downs of the First World War and the challenges of white wine production, Château d'Yquem continued to produce some of the world's finest sweet white wines. Today, it remains one of the jewels in the crown of Bordeaux's Grands Crus Classés.
