History and presentation of Domaine Bouchard père et fils..
The history of this historical house goes back to the 18th century when Michel Bouchard, a cloth manufacturer by trade, undertook tours in Burgundy to Flanders to sell his fabrics. Attracted by the profitability of the wine trade, he decided to enter the wine business. The acquisition of his first vineyard thanks to the wine trade dates from 1774. This estate is located in Volnay. He then founded the company "Bouchard Père & Fils" in 1785 with his son and grandson. In 1820, the descendant Bernard Bouchard acquired the prestigious castle of Beaune built by King Louis XI and installed the wine cellars in its underground passages and bastions. The cellars are located 10 meters below ground level on a surface of 4 000 m2. This location of the cellar ensures the ideal temperature and constant humidity for the maturation and conservation of the wines. Over the centuries, Michel Bouchard and the other members of his family have built up a huge estate covering 130 hectares along the coast. Other acquisitions has enriched the vines in Volnay, including Clos Saint-Landry, Beaune Clos de la Mousse, Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Beaune Grève vigne de l'enfant Jésus, to name but a few. The boom in international trade began in the early 20th century. Since then, the wines of Burgundy are served on the tables of starred restaurants and aboard the airlines company and cruise ships. However, the financial crisis of the 90's had an impact on the domain's turnover. As a result, the heirs decided to sell their parcels. The CEO of the Henriot group, impressed by the potential of the establishment, its well established reputation, and its requirement of quality for its wines, bought it in 1995. In 2005, he equipped the old family business with a new, more efficient winery.

The philosophy of the Bouchard family is anchored on the making of top-selling wines that give the best of the terroirs on which they are planted. Remaining true to this standard, while keeping a sharp eye to market trends, each wine of the domain is synonymous with finesse and elegance.
- Domaine Bouchard Chambertin clos de Beze 2009 double-magnum : A superb red Grand Cru of 300 cl. This wine surprises with an extraordinary nose, full of aromas and spices. On the palate, it is even more remarkable with a good dense side and an absolutely remarkable silky touch. It’s the type of wine to drink for big events like weddings, Christmas celebrations, housewarming parties before moving into a new house.
-Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Corton 1964 : This Grand Cru with its transparent red pinot color is the wine to recommend to wine lovers. Cellar aging awakens its attractive fine, aromatic and complex nose and its absolute alliance of structure and finesse. The wine is full of nuances, with a beautiful acidity and a long and elegant finish. To be enjoyed on its own or to drink with meat gratins, grilled fish, pizza, charcuterie... A rare bottle not to be missed.
-Domaine Bouchard Chevalier Montrachet 2012 a 100% Chardonnay Grand Cru white with green highlights that displays a lovely semi-intense nose of orchard fruit, lemon, floral notes and a touch of wood. On the palate, it shows medium complexity and coats the palate with its medium roundness while being light and impressive. It finishes with acidity and an incredible length on the palate. A very nice wine that can be kept for 10 to 15 years without any problem till it reaches its peak.
-Domaine Bouchard Père et fils Montrachet 1990 : this vintage is a white Grand Cru light, deep and at the same time complex. The wine has aged well and is excellent to taste with aromas of white pepper, wild strawberry, butter, vanilla, flowers... The mouthfeel is harmonious, fruity, both rich and dense. This pretty white wine offers a nice honeyed finish that intensifies in the mouth. A well-built wine that serves best with oysters, fish in sauce, cow's milk cheese, etc. It’s also a classy vintage that can be kept in a cellar for a few more years to make it even more promising in terms of flavor.
